It was previously reported that Samsung will launchThird, the news about the foldable screen phoneSamsung Display earlier submitted aThird patent for a foldable phone with a concave screen, which usesHuawei Mate XT UltimateThe completely different design allows users to maintain a normal mobile phone usage experience even when folded.
Compared to the Mate XT Ultimate's Z-shaped folding design, the Samsung Display uses a concave folding design, where two screens are folded in half, and then the other screen is folded over the two previously folded screens. Even after the fold, the external independent screen still allows for normal phone operation.
Since the entire screen surface is folded inward, and the independent outer screen is used to maintain operation after folding, unlike the Mate XT Ultimate, where part of the screen area faces outward when folded, it cannot be protected from scratches by the body frame or protective case.
The main camera module will be arranged horizontally, and when the inner screen is unfolded, there will still be a certain amount of space reserved for the internal video lens or used as an S Pen storage space, so it will not be presented in the form of a full-size screen.
Judging from the patent description, this three-screen concave folding mobile phone design patent will correspond to a 17-inch screen and adopt a dual-hinge design. Samsung proposed this design patent on May 2021, 5, but the actual patent approval time was February 19 this year, and the patent number is US D2 S.
It is currently unclear whether Samsung will use this design patent in actual products. Previous market rumors indicated that Samsung plans to launch its three-screen folding phone this year, thereby increasing the incentive for upgrading to a new phone by repeatedly using the same design of folding screen for many years.
At the same time, there were previous rumors that Samsung had actually planned to launch its three-screen foldable phone earlier, but because an internal employee allegedly brought the relevant design to Huawei and prompted Huawei to be the first to launch a three-screen foldable phone product on the market, Samsung postponed the launch of its three-screen foldable phone product schedule.
While Huawei has launched its three-screen folding phone, Samsung is also preparing to launch a product with the same design. Infinix, a subsidiary of Shenzhen Transsion, has announced the launch of a concept design of a three-screen folding phone.ZERO Series Mini Tri-Fold, and will be exhibited during MWC 2025 this year.
