Following Huawei's splash in the tri-fold phone market, Samsung earlier officially launched its first tri-fold screen flagship phone in Taiwan.Galaxy Z TriFold.

It's worth noting that Taiwan was listed as one of only six initial launch markets globally (the others include South Korea, the United States, China, and Singapore), demonstrating Samsung's emphasis on Taiwan's high-end smartphone consumer power. This new phone features the "Flex G" display panel with its "G" shape and tri-fold design, allowing a large 10-inch screen to fit in a pocket. Through more sophisticated hinge technology and software integration, it redefines mobile productivity.

Pushing the limits of physics: unfolded to only 3.9mm, folded thickness even thinner than the old Fold.
The biggest highlight of the Galaxy Z TriFold lies in its exquisite craftsmanship and design. Although it's a "tri-fold" design, Samsung has managed to keep the thickness at only 12.9mm when folded through a brand-new hinge structure, which is even thinner than previous generations of the Galaxy Z Fold series. When fully unfolded, the body thickness is only 3.9mm.

To ensure the strength of the chassis, the frame is made of Advanced Armor Aluminum, while the fragile hinge is covered with high-strength titanium alloy. In terms of durability, the official claim is that the main screen has passed 20 fold tests, equivalent to folding it 100 times a day for five consecutive years.
• Cover screen:6.5 inches (operation is no different from a regular mobile phone)
• Inner page screen:When fully unfolded, it reaches a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display panel.
• Brightness performance:The cover has a peak brightness of 2600 nits / the inner pages have a peak brightness of 1600 nits.

The first PC to support "standalone DeX" operation, a PC in your pocket.
With larger screens, the software needs to keep up. The Galaxy Z TriFold is Samsung's first phone to support the independent operation of Samsung DeX.
Previously, DeX required an external monitor to start, but now, thanks to the large 10-inch screen, users can directly open the DeX desktop mode on their phone screen, create up to four workspaces, and connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, essentially using their phone as a laptop. Combined with Galaxy AI's Gemini Live integration, users can instantly search for information and share their screen while in meetings.

Uncompromising specifications: 2MP camera + Snapdragon 8 Elite
Unlike previous foldable phones that often compromised on camera specifications, the Galaxy Z TriFold goes straight for the top:
• processor:Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite For Galaxy, emphasizing multitasking performance.
• Main camera:A 2-megapixel ultra-high resolution lens is a common feature of S-series Ultra models.
• Ultra wide angle:1200 megapixels (supports macro mode).
• Battery:It adopts a special 5600mAh triple battery module design to support the power consumption of the large screen.

Analysis: Will tri-fold folding phones become the new hot trend in 2026?
In my opinion, the launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold symbolizes the official entry of foldable phones into the "2.0 era".

If the dual-fold (Fold series) was designed to solve the need for "turning a phone into a tablet," then the triple-fold (TriFold) truly realizes the vision of "putting a tablet in your pocket." The 10-inch 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio is more suitable for watching videos and multitasking (three apps side by side) compared to the near-square aspect ratio of the dual-fold.
Samsung's decision to allow DeX to operate independently on the phone is a smart move, fully unleashing the productivity potential of the 10-inch screen. While the price will certainly be high (after all, it's a top-of-the-line flagship), it's undoubtedly a very attractive option for business people who crave ultimate portability and a large screen. The next question is whether the software ecosystem can support this unique "triple-screen" experience.

In a subsequent interview, Chen Chi-meng, General Manager of Samsung Taiwan's Mobile Communications Business Division, stated that the cumulative sales of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 foldable phones launched by Samsung in the Taiwan market in the second half of this year have increased by nearly 10% in the four months compared to the previous generation models, and the overall sales revenue has increased by nearly 35%. As a result, Taiwan has been successfully selected as one of the six global launch markets for the Galaxy Z TriFold, which also highlights the characteristic that Taiwanese users are more willing to accept new technological products.
On the other hand, Chen Qimeng also pointed out that the Galaxy Z TriFold is currently being sold in small quantities. Therefore, the first wave of distribution will mainly be through Samsung's physical sales channels and online stores. However, some of the products will also be sold through partner channels and telecommunications operators. Therefore, Far EasTone Telecom and Chunghwa Telecom will also sell this Samsung tri-fold phone.
However, while emphasizing the good performance of the first wave of sales and that they will further strive for more sales quotas from headquarters, Chen Qimeng stated that the current product positioning of Galaxy Z TriFold is not aimed at boosting sales volume, but rather at selling to groups such as those who prefer larger screen sizes and tech enthusiasts. He even expects that some users who have just upgraded to Galaxy Z Fold7 in the second half of this year may be part of the target group, and pointed out that some users may buy two different foldable phones at the same time.
Samsung has now officially turned its "Flex G" foldable display panel design into a real product like the Galaxy Z TriFold, meaning it may use more foldable display panels from its recently showcased concept designs in future products. However, this largely depends on Samsung's future plans; perhaps some previously presented foldable display panels will be used in future products. The "Flex In&Out" screen can be folded in both directions, and the "Flex Note Extendable" screen design combines folding and stretching features. All of these could potentially become official products.
Regarding the recent memory shortage and resulting price increases, Chen Qimeng also anticipates that the prices of subsequent mobile phone products will be affected. However, he also stated that Samsung will adjust its strategies accordingly and meet the needs of various market users through different product combinations.
