At CES 2026, Samsung showcased its Family Care feature, which allows users to quickly determine if their pets, who are also family members, have any health issues by taking pictures of their cats' or dogs' eyes or teeth using Samsung phones that support Galaxy AI technology.
According to Samsung, this feature was trained using over 3 pet disease cases. It can use Galaxy AI's image recognition capabilities to judge the condition of a pet's eyes or teeth as captured by the user's phone, thereby determining the pet's health status and whether it is suffering from any disease or abnormal physical condition.
The design concept of this feature is that since pets can usually only express their emotions through behaviors such as body language and vocalizations, it is often difficult for family members to notice if there is anything wrong with their pet's body. As a result, by the time they actually discover that something is wrong with their pet's body, it is often already a very serious situation.
Therefore, Samsung hopes that by applying Galaxy AI technology, users can discover early on whether their pets, who are also family members, are healthy, and can seek further medical assistance through analysis of the situation, or receive appropriate treatment suggestions from Galaxy AI.
The official version is expected to be released in 2026 and may appear on new flagship phones.
However, this function is currently only available for dogs and cats. Samsung explains that it theoretically supports most breeds of cats and dogs, including mixed breeds (also known as mixed breeds in Taiwan). Although there may be some misdiagnosis for a few breeds, it can usually analyze common diseases by looking at the eyes and teeth, allowing users to improve their pets' health earlier.
Samsung indicated that this feature may be expanded to include more pet types in the future, such as fish and rodents, but for now, it will focus on common pets like cats and dogs.
This feature is currently expected to be released in 2026, and may soon be seen in the upcoming flagship Galaxy S26 series.
Add more Family Care features
In addition, Samsung showcased the Family Care feature at the event, which not only records the sleep patterns of family members but also adds the ability to identify early cognitive impairments such as early memory loss. The judgment principle includes whether the text input operation on the mobile phone is too frequent with typos, or whether the watch detects extremely abnormal sleep habits (such as insomnia). Furthermore, it can also provide special interactive content on Samsung mobile phones or TVs to help users further exercise their brainpower, thereby improving memory or concentration.
