Samsung revealed that its mobile phone with silicon-carbon negative electrode battery will be released soon, and the development of three-screen foldable mobile phone has entered the final sprint stage
Next, mobile phones will develop towards thinner and more diverse forms, but they may inevitably become more expensive.

OnA previous private briefing中,Minseok Kang, head of smartphone product planning at SamsungIt revealed that it will add silicon-carbon negative electrode battery design to the Galaxy series models, and also stated that its three-screen foldable phone has entered the key research and development stage. It will be launched at the end of this year.

Focusing on silicon-carbon negative electrode battery technology, three core elements enhance battery life and stability

Silicon-carbon anode batteries have become a popular battery technology design in recent years, primarily due to their potential to offer higher energy density and significantly reduce size. For mobile devices, this not only extends battery life but also facilitates thinner and lighter designs.

Minseok Kang stated that Samsung has actually been researching and developing silicon-carbon negative electrode battery technology for many years and has now entered the product testing phase. It is expected that it will be put into practical use in the Galaxy series devices "soon". He also emphasized that Samsung uses the three principles of "capacity, charging speed, and safety" as research and development indicators, and gives priority to battery stability to ensure that while introducing new technologies, user experience and device safety are not affected, to avoid the recurrence of previous Galaxy Note7 battery fire accidents.

However, fromThe recently launched Galaxy Z Fold7The company did not boldly adopt silicon-carbon negative electrode battery technology because this technology obviously does not yet meet Samsung's internal safety requirements (including yield and stability), and it may take some time before it can be actually used in commercial products.

If this technology is successfully developed in the future, Samsung's next mobile phones may be able to compete with more Chinese brands in terms of lightweight design, and there may even be a chance to add back the S Pen function that was removed from the Galaxy Z Fold7.

A prototype of a three-screen foldable phone emerges, with a dual inward-folding mechanism challenging the limits of mass production.

In addition to battery technology updates, Minseok Kang also revealed that Samsung is accelerating the development of a number of innovative form factors, including the three-screen folding phone rumored in the market.

Current reports indicate that Samsung's three-screen folding phone will be named "Galaxy G Fold" and will adopt a double-sided screen folding design, making it fold concavely in the shape of a "G", which is different from the "Z" structure three-fold structure adopted by Huawei. At the same time, a set of screens will also be configured on the outside to facilitate users to maintain normal operation when the phone is folded.

Market analysts believe that Samsung did not adopt the "Z" structure tri-fold structure design. In addition to considering that this form of design technology was previously leaked due to internal factors, it led to the Chinese display panel manufacturer BOE indirectly obtaining such technology and using it forHuawei's three-screen foldable phone, the Mate XT, and other models, but also includes considering launching new designs in the market to improve the competitiveness of the product in the market, so we will consider creating new machines in different forms.

But now Shenzhen Transsion is also rumored to be showing its three-screen folding phone to the public.PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold, which also adopts a double-sided inward folding mechanism design, so it has the potential to compete directly with Samsung.

Minseok Kang stated that new products will only be released publicly when they are "sufficiently complete," and that the product is currently entering the final sprint. If all goes well, Samsung will be able to launch this product in limited quantities in select markets by the end of this year, but the price will likely exceed NT$8, and it is expected to target high-end users who seek cutting-edge innovation and avant-garde design.

Galaxy's future blueprint: "Thinner, longer, more advanced", but it also seems to be getting more expensive

As foldable phones continue to improve and silicon-carbon negative electrode battery technology matures, Samsung is currently planning to improve the performance of Galaxy series devices while continuing to reduce their size, improve heat dissipation efficiency, and integrate more innovative applications.

If mass production scales up steadily in the future, silicon-carbon negative electrode batteries will become standard equipment in future high-end smartphones. The emergence of triple-screen foldable phones may also inject new competitive momentum into the foldable phone market, providing users with a completely different mobile experience.

However, the current mainstream demand is still for upright phones. Considering factors such as technology, manufacturing costs, tariffs, and exchange rates, the prices of high-end smartphones are likely to continue to rise. Samsung's triple-screen foldable phone, as well as new foldable phones to be released later, are bound to move towards a higher price point.

Although it can be speculated that the price of such mobile phone products will decrease as they become popular, judging from the market distribution of existing product competition, the price of foldable phones may only continue to rise in the short term, and it may take more time before the price of foldable phones becomes more affordable.
