According toThe Elec NewsIt is said that Samsung seems to have adjusted its production strategy for its next-generation flagship phone Galaxy S26 series in response to market reactions.Galaxy S25 Edge market sales performance falls short of expectationsSamsung has not only decided to cancel the development project of the subsequent model Galaxy S26 Edge, but also adjusted the mass production schedule of the entire Galaxy S26 series, prioritizing resources to focus on the most popular Ultra model.
Originally planned for simultaneous mass production, the Ultra model will now be produced first.
Samsung's original plan was to simultaneously start mass production of the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra models before the end of this year, with the goal of holding the Galaxy Unpacked conference at the end of January 2026 and officially launching them in late January or early February.
However, the latest news indicates that Samsung has changed its plans due to the chain reaction of the cancellation of the Galaxy S26 Edge development project. Currently, only the OLED screen required for the Galaxy S26 Ultra has received production approval, and the related actual machine assembly work is expected to start in December this year.
In contrast, the screen production licenses required for the standard version of the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ have been postponed to December, and the assembly schedule of the entire device is estimated to be postponed to January 2026. Therefore, it is possible that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will enter the market first, and the standard version of the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ will be launched later.
Industry insiders: Prioritizing Ultra supply is an "efficient" strategy
An anonymous industry source told The Elec News that Samsung's move was "efficient." He explained, "From Samsung's perspective, the company must consider its production capacity constraints. Development of the Ultra model is complete, and it typically accounts for more than half of the series' total sales, so prioritizing it to secure supply makes sense."
Obviously, after canceling the successor model of Galaxy S26 Edge, Samsung decided to concentrate the production capacity and resources originally allocated to this model on the Ultra model with the greatest market demand and the highest profit.
The overall release schedule may be slightly delayed to February
Overall, the early production schedule of the Ultra model and the delayed production schedule of the standard version may mean that Samsung's overall release rhythm will only be slightly affected. As to whether it will have an impact on subsequent market sales, it is not yet possible to confirm.
It's expected that the Galaxy Unpacked event for the Galaxy S26 series will still take place as scheduled between January and February of next year. However, initially, the Ultra model will likely have a higher supply than the standard S26 and S26+ models.
