As several Chinese brands have begun to make thinner foldable phones, related news also indicates that Samsung will create an even thinner foldable phone, and will aim to achieve the 24mm thickness of the Galaxy S7.7.
Media reports including the Korea Economic DailyRefers toSamsung's mobile business head, Roh Tae-moon, has internally requested the development of a foldable phone with a screen that is close in thickness to the Galaxy S24, in order to compete with Chinese brands that are launching a series of thinner and lighter foldable phone products.
If Samsung can make a foldable phone with a thickness similar to the Galaxy S24, that is, around 7.7mm, it means that the foldable phone will be closer to the experience of using a normal upright phone and will be lighter. However, this means that its manufacturing process will become more challenging and may even affect its sturdiness and durability.
However, judging by the gradual reduction in thickness and weight of foldable phones by Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, and other manufacturers, Samsung's need to further enhance the competitiveness of its foldable phone products by making its designs thinner and lighter is clearly a necessary development direction.
Previous rumors indicated that Samsung would launch a specially designed Galaxy Z Fold10 Slim (or Ultra) in certain markets, including China, in October this year, aiming to keep the thickness of the device below 6mm. This could be Samsung's first step in counterattacking its Chinese brand competitors.
