Samsung has announced the official expansion of its One UI software platform to smart home appliances, extending the familiar user interface beyond smartphones and TVs to refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and more. By unifying the design language and integrating services across devices, Samsung aims to provide users with a consistent and intuitive experience across various products in their home.
One UI expands to all product lines
Samsung's One UI not only provides a consistent user interface but also integrates apps and services like the Bixby voice assistant, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus. Paired with the SmartThings platform, users can connect their phones, TVs, and home appliances into a complete smart ecosystem, simplifying daily management through services like Family Care, Pet Care, and Home Care.
In addition, home appliances will also have the familiar Now Brief personalized information panel on mobile phones, allowing users to check the weather, family schedules, recipe suggestions, and even the remaining operating time of the washing machine directly on the refrigerator screen. This consistent experience across products is the core of Samsung's "Seamless Smart Home".
Seven-year update to improve durability and safety
Samsung also promised that all Wi-Fi-enabled smart home appliances launched in 2024 will receive up to seven years of software updates. The first wave of updates will be released in September of this year for smart home appliances launched in 7, covering three major areas: security, smart features, and interface design.
Regarding security, Samsung has extended Knox Matrix to refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, stoves, and other products, incorporating Trust Chain technology to allow devices in the home to monitor each other's security status. Refrigerators and washing machines equipped with screens will also feature encrypted certificate synchronization and Passkey support, and will include the same Knox Security dashboard as the 2025 models, providing users with real-time visibility into device security.
Smarter function upgrades
Samsung's AI applications in smart home appliances will also evolve further. Refrigerators equipped with Family Hub or 9-inch screens will gain an enhanced AI Vision Inside function, which can not only identify the freshness of ingredients, but also recognize more types of packaged foods.
Bixby has added a Voice ID function that can recognize the voices of different family members, thereby providing an operating experience that is more tailored to personal needs. You can even quickly activate the voice assistant by simply "double-clicking" on the screen.
Regarding content services, Samsung TV Plus will expand to Canada, Brazil, and India, and will be available on the Family Hub series of smart refrigerators. Specifically for the Indian market, Samsung announced that its 7-inch washing machine will be available in eight new local languages, including Bengali, Punjabi, and Gujarati, enhancing the localized experience.
Samsung Smart Home Blueprint
By extending One UI from smartphones and TVs to home appliances and promising seven years of software updates, Samsung is gradually realizing its vision of a "unified, secure, and intelligent home." This means that home devices are no longer just individual products, but rather a connected, integrated system that continuously evolves over time. For users, using a refrigerator or washing machine will be as familiar as using a smartphone, and will be constantly updated.
