When Samsung previously unveiled the Galaxy Note 20 series, it showcased the new Galaxy Z Fold 2, revealing numerous new design details. This latest announcement further confirms the global launch of this new foldable phone in 9 countries and regions on September 18th, with pre-orders now open in Taiwan. Following its predecessors in China and Hong Kong, the phone will feature 40GB of RAM and 12GB of storage.
As for the suggested retail price, it will be sold at US$1999 as previously rumored.
Samsung also confirmed that the Thom Browne Edition limited edition Galaxy Z Fold 2 will only be sold in specific countries and regions, and only 5000 sets will be available for sale. It is expected to go on sale on September 9, with a suggested retail price of US$25. It includes the Galaxy Z Fold 3299 with Thom Browne's classic striped color design, as well as the Galaxy Watch 2 and Galaxy Buds Live with the same design elements. Limited edition protective cases will also be available, and the phone itself will also add a Thom Browne theme interface and camera filters.
As for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung offers two colors: Mystic Copper and Mystic Black, and the Mystic Copper color also uses a matte finish.
At the same time, the hinge color customization service is available in specific countries and regions including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam. You can choose from four colors: Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Red and Metallic Blue through the Samsung official website.
Regarding the related changes, Samsung not only emphasized improving the structural strength of the hinge, but also provided more fixed opening and closing angle options between 75 degrees and 115 degrees. For example, users can maintain a certain angle when opening the screen to watch videos on the full-size 6.2-inch external screen, or fully unfold it to continue watching on the larger 7.6-inch internal screen. They can even reply to messages through the lower half of the screen with the screen half-open.
At the same time, Samsung also emphasized that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 enhances the smoothness and switching speed of continuous use of the inner and outer screens, and the internal screen is more stable when running three apps simultaneously in multiple windows. Samsung has also made more adjustments for foldable screen phones in One UI 2.5.
In terms of camera shooting functions, users can choose to turn on or off the internal and external screens to display the shooting screen simultaneously, allowing users to frame the picture through the external screen or the internal screen. In addition, a gesture shooting function similar to the Galaxy Z Flip is also added.
The newly added auto-framing photography function will automatically enable the ultra-wide-angle video recording function and automatically analyze the movement pattern and number of people within a distance of 1.5 to 2.5 meters. When a single person is recognized, it will be zoomed through cropping. When multiple people are recognized, a certain composition range will be maintained to keep the person in the center.
However, this function can only recognize up to three people, and can only recognize the movement of people and horizontal movement. If they move forward and backward, there will be no automatic follow-up zoom shooting effect.
