After years of player clamor and market rumors, Ubisoft finally...confirmThey are currently working on a remake of the critically acclaimed 2013 classic, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. This new remake is not only officially titled Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, but it's also rumored to feature a major system overhaul, possibly even drastically cutting the "modern-day storyline" to allow players to be fully immersed in the golden age of Caribbean pirates.
More than just a high-definition remake: a comprehensive upgrade comparable to Shadowers.
Although Ubisoft has only released one concept art image of the protagonist Edward Kenway standing on a ship, without revealing many in-game details, the industry has already been leaking a lot of specific information.
According to previous leaks, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced will not be just a simple "high-definition remaster," but a substantial "complete remake." In terms of visual presentation and gameplay mechanics upgrades, it is expected to be on par with the previously released Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Even more noteworthy is the rumor that this remake will completely remove the controversial "Modern Day" gameplay from the original. This means that players will no longer be frequently forced to detach themselves from their ancient assassin persona and return to the modern Abstergo Corporation to watch computers, but can instead focus the entire gaming experience entirely on the pure pirate theme and maritime action-adventure.
Release date prediction: Perhaps it will arrive sooner than expected?
As for the question that players are most concerned about, "When can we play it?", although the official release schedule has not yet been given, we can get some clues from Ubisoft's recent financial plans.
Ubisoft recently revealed that it expects to release an "unreleased game" before the end of the next fiscal year (i.e., before March 31, 2027). Considering that Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced was still unannounced at the time, and that the project had reportedly been in secret development for several years, the game in question was very likely a remake of Black Flag. If this speculation is true, it may not be long before the game is set to launch again.
Simultaneous Unveiling of Blueprints: Codename Hexe Undergoes Major Personnel Shake-up
In addition to the Black Flag remake, Ubisoft also updated the future roadmap for the Assassin's Creed series, mentioning the next highly anticipated mainline title—Codename Hexe.
The developers promise that Codename Hexe will deliver a "unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin's Creed experience," set during a pivotal and turbulent period in history (speculated to be the witch trials in Europe).
However, the development team for this new title has undergone a major reshuffle. Clint Hocking, the creative director of Codename Hexe who worked at Ubisoft for 20 years, recently left the company. Taking over this important role is Jean Guedson, the creative director who led the development of the original Black Flag 13 years ago.
