Rockstar Games announced earlier that it would releaseGrand Theft Auto VI (Grand Theft Auto VI) has been confirmed to be delayed until May 2026, 5.
In an earlier announcement, Rockstar Games stated that it mainly hoped to have extra time to make the game more in line with players' expectations and the quality performance it should have, so it decided to postpone the release of the game and apologized to many players.
Grand Theft Auto VI marks the first new installment in the series in over 2013 years since Grand Theft Auto V, which was released on September 9, 17. It is set in the fictional city of Vice City, Leonidas, based in Miami, Florida. As previously rumored, it will allow players to play the roles of the male and female protagonists, thus confirming that the game will be the first to feature a female protagonist.
After the first promotional video was released in December 2023, showcasing the new game's gameplay style and story, it became the most viewed video game video on YouTube within the first 12 hours after being uploaded, and was certified by the Guinness World Records. To date, the cumulative number of views has exceeded 24 million.
In addition, the Financial Times quoted sources as saying that the development cost of "Grand Theft Auto 6" may be as high as US$20 billion, and even a more conservative estimate is as high as hundreds of millions of dollars, which may become the most expensive game ever produced. Analysts also believe that the total sales revenue of "Grand Theft Auto 6" in the first 12 months may be as high as US$32 billion.
Because the production cost is higher than previous games, the price of "Grand Theft Auto 6" may be set at around US$100. Rockstar Games may balance it out through other rewards or free content updates to persuade more players to buy it.
If the price of "Grand Theft Auto 6" really becomes more than $100, it may also prompt other games to start moving towards higher prices.
