Like most console games entering the mobile market, Capcom recently announced that it will be collaborating with Aniplex and JOYCITY to develop a new mobile game, Resident Evil Survival Unit, leveraging the assets of the Resident Evil series. The game is expected to launch this year and has already been pre-registered globally through the App Store and Google Play Store. It will be released in markets such as Japan, South Korea, Europe, the US, and Asia.
This game continues the apocalyptic atmosphere of the Resident Evil series, but the gameplay diverges significantly from previous action-adventure titles, focusing on strategic survival. Set in a world of total urban collapse and uncontrolled infection, players must work together with survivors to build a defense against the relentless onslaught of the infected amidst the devastated city, carving out their own territory.
The game features a multi-role, collaborative strategy system. Players can summon characters with diverse specialties, such as combat, gathering, and technology. Like deploying troops, players can flexibly deploy and allocate resources based on the battle situation. By building strongholds, upgrading defenses, and developing technologies, players can gradually build an impenetrable base to withstand threats from unknown creatures and hostile forces.
Beyond stronghold construction and defense, the game also features open-ended exploration. Players can lead their teams through ruined maps to search for resources, uncover hidden events, and even encounter other survivor groups. Whether to form alliances or wage war for resources is entirely up to the player, transforming each stronghold into more than just a refuge; it has the potential to become a powerful force dominating the war zone.
Classic characters from the Resident Evil Survival series will also appear, including Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and other well-known protagonists from the series, this time joining players in their struggle to survive in the apocalyptic ruins. However, compared to the original series, this game will unfold a completely new storyline, and every player's choice and every battle will propel the story towards an unknown future.
It is worth mentioning that the game also invited the well-known Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano to serve as a special designer to create the original monster "Mortem" for this game, injecting a unique visual style into the horror atmosphere.
Resident Evil Survival Units combines diverse gameplay elements such as construction, exploration, and strategic combat, departing significantly from the action-adventure-focused Resident Evil series and aiming to expand the IP's appeal with a fresh take on the game. Capcom has not yet announced a release date, but it's expected to launch in 2025. Pre-registration is now underway, and players who register will receive exclusive rewards upon release.
