Readmoo and E Ink Technology today (April 4) unveiled the mooInk V, the world's first foldable color e-book reader, at the Touch Taiwan 16 exhibition. Featuring an E Ink Gallery 2025 color e-paper display panel and a concave design, the device is more convenient to carry around and allows for a larger display area for viewing content.
E Ink Chairman Li Zhenghao stated that foldable display technology is a key research and development focus, with years of active investment and funding. He is looking forward to the launch of foldable e-readers, which will provide users with a lightweight, convenient, and visually enhanced reading experience. Readmoo CEO Pang Wenzhen explained that the mooInk V's foldable design effectively reduces the device's size, making it more portable and convenient for reading. It also offers an 8-inch display area for wider viewing.
Both the mooInk V and mooInk Pro e-paper tablets were designed by the KOTOK design team at Sony Design Center. Designer An Fuhao won both the Red Dot and IF Design Awards in 2018 for his GVIDO MUSIC e-paper music score.
The mooInk V is designed with the concept of a pocket book in mind. Its body is made of aluminum-magnesium alloy and finished with a delicate silver metallic paint, exuding a sense of understated luxury and technological fashion. Its 8-inch screen can be folded to fit neatly into a suit jacket or jeans pocket. When flattened, it is suitable for reading text books, comics, and illustrated books. Weighing only approximately 255 grams, it can be folded in half along its long edge to provide two reading angles: fully open 180 degrees and 90 degrees, making the reading experience more similar to that of a paper book.
The E Ink Gallery 3 not only displays vibrant, saturated full-color content with a 300 ppi resolution for clearer text, but also boasts a whiter screen for more comfortable reading and higher reflectivity, eliminating the need for a reading light while maintaining excellent color performance. This offers significant advantages for consumers seeking a blue light-free experience.
Liu Dajing, Associate Director of the Business Center at E Ink Technology, stated that the e-paper display layer is approximately four times thicker than a typical OLED display panel, posing a high barrier to entry for foldable development. The E Ink Gallery 3 color e-paper used in this project underwent nine years of development, undergoing multiple innovations in new materials, optimized stacking structures, and passing 20 bend tests. This makes it the industry's first mass-produced foldable color e-paper panel, and also makes the mooInk V the first e-paper reader to incorporate a bendable design.
