In the past few years, when people heard about enterprise cybersecurity, the first keyword that came to mind was almost always "ransomware." However, according to Synology's 2026 "Taiwan Enterprise Data Protection Survey" released today (January 29), the trend has changed.
This survey of 600 IT personnel from medium and large enterprises shows that ransomware, which used to be a frequent threat, has slipped to third place. Instead, "hardware failures" and a significant increase in "human error" have become the biggest concerns for businesses. Faced with this new situation where "internal problems" outweigh "external threats," Synology believes the appropriate solution is automation.
Manual backups become a vulnerability; half of enterprises require more than an hour for disaster recovery.
Kao Chih-Peng, Sales and Marketing Director of Synology Taiwan, analyzed that enterprises already have a certain awareness and mechanism for defending against ransomware. However, due to insufficient IT manpower, many processes that rely on "manual" execution (such as accidental file deletion or incorrect parameter settings) have become new vulnerability issues.
Several data points from the survey are noteworthy:
• Disaster recovery is too slow:More than 50% of businesses need more than an hour to restore critical services after an incident, which is a huge blow to a business environment where every second counts.
• The obstacle to compliance is "people":Although 60% of companies have market compliance requirements such as GDPR or ISO27001, 62% of companies said that the biggest obstacle is not the difficulty of the technology, but "insufficient personnel and resources".
• "Fake" Offline Backup:Although 30% of enterprises use offline backup, many practical operations still rely on IT staff to manually "plug and unplug hard drives" or replace tapes. This is not only time-consuming, but also makes it difficult to restore data in an emergency.
New weapons arrive: Backup all-in-one machine and full-flash server
To reduce the variable factor of "human", Synology's product strategy in 2026 will shift entirely towards "automation" and "high efficiency".
• ActiveProtect Backup Appliance:Designed for multi-site enterprises, it emphasizes hardware and software integration and a single management interface. Key features include a built-in immutable mechanism and automated offline backup functionality, eliminating reliance on manual operation and ensuring backup data is not tampered with or accidentally deleted.
• PAS7700 Dual Active All NVMe Server:This is Synology's powerful tool for entering the high-end market, employing a dual-controller (Active-Active) architecture that allows for seamless switching even if a single node fails. Its all-NVMe design is specifically tailored for latency-sensitive tasks such as AI inference or high-frequency trading.
AI Enters the Office: Ground-based Private Cloud AI Offers Greater Peace of Mind
In addition to hardware, Synology is also introducing a large number of AI features on the software side, attempting to use AI to fill the IT manpower gap:
• Office AI Assistant:Similar to Copilot, it can assist in writing and polishing text, and even retrieve spreadsheet formulas using natural language.
• Synology Meet:A private cloud conferencing system that supports real-time voice-to-text and translation.
• Synology AI Agent:The planned IT smart assistant and on-prem LLM will allow enterprises to enjoy the convenience of AI without worrying about confidential information being leaked through public cloud channels.
