Sony Mobile officially announcedXperia 5IVAfterwards, I actually had a quick experience with the new phone and compared it with the Xperia 5 III launched last year to see the differences between the two phones.
Let's first briefly summarize the key design features of the Xperia 5 IV. It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 8GB of memory, and 256GB of storage capacity. The storage capacity can be expanded via a micro SD memory card.
The overall display still uses a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution and supports a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the body width has been adjusted to 67.1mm and the height is 155.74mm, which is slightly smaller than the 68mm wide and 157mm long model launched last year. The thickness remains at 8.2mm, but the weight is 172 grams, which is slightly heavier than the 5 grams of the Xperia 168 III.
The body still maintains the 3.5mm headphone jack and the highest IP65/IP68 waterproof and dustproof design, but the design is different from the Xperia 5 III's arc matte frame and glossy back cover. It is replaced with the same matte back cover and flat design frame as the Xperia 1 IV. It also becomes the first model in the Xperia 5 series to be equipped with wireless charging, and the battery capacity has been increased to 5000mAh, so the standby time has also become longer.
According to Sony Mobile, the Xperia 5 IV is still not a "small-sized phone". Judging from the models currently available on the market, the Xperia 5 IV is indeed not the smallest-sized design, but is designed as a flagship phone that is easy to use with one hand.
Although the product design is a direct copy of the Xperia 1 IV, there are some differences in specifications and functions based on the product positioning. For example, compared with the Xperia 1 IV or the Xperia 5 III launched last year, the main camera telephoto lens lacks the periscope lens design corresponding to true optical zoom, and is replaced by a 1200-megapixel, 60mm focal length, f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens with a fixed focus design.
However, compared to the Xperia 5 III, the lens shooting function has been enhanced. For example, the telephoto lens also supports 4K 120fps video recording, 20 frames per second shooting and eye tracking function. In addition, the body has added wireless charging, and the battery capacity has been increased to 5000mAh. Therefore, it is still a clear "upgrade" in comparison.
Sony Mobile positioned the Xperia 5 IV for those who prefer a smaller phone with more vibrant colors, but also want a more advanced camera and comprehensive video creation capabilities. Therefore, aside from the screen specifications and the camera's telephoto lens, the rest of the design and user experience are virtually identical to the Xperia 1 IV. Therefore, it all depends on the user's specific needs. For example, if you have higher requirements for photography, we recommend the Xperia 1 IV, or the more balanced and user-friendly Xperia 5 IV.
In addition, the Xperia 5 IV also supports the previously launched Bluetooth controller and external screen accessories, allowing users to live broadcast to YouTube through the phone. It can also be used with the Music Pro app to receive audio and can use Sony cloud technology to post-produce and output sound quality close to that of a recording studio, allowing users to create various types of audio and video.
As for the gaming experience, the Xperia 5 IV also boasts a 21:9 display ratio, a 120fps frame rate, and game enhancer software functions to enhance the gaming experience. It even allows live interaction during the game process, so it is expected to attract more gamers.
The specific price of Xperia 5 IV has not been announced yet, but it will be launched in the global market in September. The local price in Taiwan is expected to be announced in late September. The body will be available in three colors: black, white and green. The Taiwan versions are named Creative Black, Vibrant White and Stylish Green respectively.
