Equipped with a custom Oryon CPU, clock speed up to 3.8GHz
In terms of core architecture, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 also incorporates Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU architecture. Although positioned slightly below the Elite version, its custom cores still boast a maximum clock speed of 3.8GHz.
Official data shows that compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 offers a significant 36% performance improvement and a 76% increase in web browsing response speed. This means that the efficiency of multitasking or running high-load applications will be noticeably upgraded.
In terms of graphics processing, the Adreno GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 also uses a sliced architecture, which achieves higher clock speeds and improves gaming and graphics processing performance by 11%.
Hexagon NPU performance surges by 46%, enabling AI to be "wake up instantly with your phone".
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 features a Hexagon NPU with up to 46% performance improvement, providing powerful computing capabilities for a wide range of generative AI applications.
Qualcomm has emphasized the "intuitive interaction" between devices and users. Through the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which intelligently integrates microphone and sensor inputs, the new platform supports the function of "simply picking up the device to wake up the AI assistant," and the system can detect the user's speaking intentions in real time.
In addition, agentic AI, powered by an AI engine, can also provide context-aware interactions and personalized suggestions, thereby achieving a seamless smart experience on devices.
Brands such as OnePlus and vivo will be the first to launch their products, which will be available within a few weeks.
Qualcomm has confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be adopted by several leading OEMs worldwide, with the initial list including OnePlus, iQOO, Motorola, and vivo. Commercial devices powered by this new flagship platform are expected to be launched in the coming weeks.
