At MWC 2026 this year, the focus of communication technology discussions has shifted from simply "connectivity speed" to "smart autonomy." Qualcomm did more than just unveil chips; it presented its commercialization timeline for 6G mobile networks and, through the application concept of "Agentic AI," attempted to redefine the underlying architecture from mobile phones to factory automation.

6G is no longer a pipe dream: it will officially kick in 2029.

In the past, we always felt that 6G networks were still a long way off, but this time Qualcomm and its industry partners have set a clear "milestone": commercial deployment in 2029.

The biggest difference between 6G and previous generations of communication technology is that 6G networks are positioned as an "AI-native system." This means that connectivity, wide-area sensing, and high-performance computing will no longer be separate modules, but will be deeply integrated like the neural network of the brain.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon highlighted the key point: 6G networks will distribute intelligence across every device, edge, and cloud. In other words, future network providers will no longer simply sell data, but will transform into AI-driven service companies.

Snapdragon X105: The "heart" of communication, built specifically for multi-agent AI.

In anticipation of the second half of 5G-Advanced technology development, Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon X105 5G Modem-RF communication system. As a fifth-generation 5G AI processor, its most crucial evolution lies in its support for "agent-based AI."

• Limits of performance and size:Power consumption is reduced by 30% and the packaging area is reduced by 15%, which is very noticeable for mobile phones or wearable devices that pursue thinness and long battery life.

• Seamless satellite communications:By integrating NR-NTN satellite direct connection technology, users can still transmit video, voice and data even at the edge of the map or in areas with poor reception.

• Positioning Black Technology:This is the industry's first GNSS engine to support four frequencies (L1, L2, L5, L6), which improves accuracy while saving 25% of power consumption.

The highlight: Qualcomm and Siemens join forces to define a new look for "automated manufacturing".

In the battleground of Industry 4.0, Qualcomm's collaboration with Siemens is particularly noteworthy, with the two companies showcasing an autonomous production model that integrates 5G private networks and edge AI.

By using Siemens industrial computers (IPCs) equipped with Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 accelerator cards, AI agents in factories can make decisions entirely "locally." This means that equipment such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or robotic arms no longer need to rely on remote cloud centers to perform fault diagnosis and quality inspection in real time.

This "decentralized" architecture not only significantly reduces latency, but more importantly, it ensures data security—sensitive production information can be locked inside the factory, while Siemens' 5G technology ensures that these devices have extremely high network stability while on the move.

Dragonwing: Helping telecom operators minimize their operating costs

Finally, Qualcomm's Dragonwing RAN automation suite, when integrated with telecom service providers' businesses, aims to address the common dilemma faced by telecom service providers: stagnant revenue growth coupled with soaring maintenance costs.

透過目標在2026年達到Level 4高度自動化運作,Qualcomm預期將能協助電信服務商降低約25%的營運成本。而在2028年實現Level 5完全自動化,更是目標將電信服務商的常態性支出成本減少40%。

One specific scenario is for FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) applications. When traffic in a certain area suddenly surges due to usage habits (such as holding concerts or large-scale exhibitions), the AI agent will automatically analyze the actual usage of network base stations and adjust spectrum resources in real time, achieving optimal operation without requiring engineers to issue manual instructions.

Analysis: Now is the time to act.

Judging from this announcement, Qualcomm is no longer content with being just a "semiconductor supplier." Through the integration of Dragonwing with the Snapdragon series computing platforms, Qualcomm is attempting to create an AI agent ecosystem spanning both consumer and industrial sectors.

As the Dragonwing white paper emphasizes, "Now is the time for transformation." When 6G mobile networks converge with agent-based AI, the speed of response in future smart living and smart production will exceed our imagination.
