Qualcomm announced its membership in the Eclipse Foundation and SOAFEE SIG, two open standards organizations focused on software-defined vehicle applications. This partnership strengthens Qualcomm’s developer-first market development strategy and drives the next generation of digital in-vehicle platform experiences, accelerating the digital transformation of the automotive industry.
The Eclipse Foundation, run by the Eclipse SDV Working Group, aims to create scalable, commercial in-vehicle technologies through open source software collaboration and innovative architectures, while also enabling collaboration within the automotive ecosystem through open standards. The SOAFEE SIG, comprised of Arm, AWS, Bosch, Volkswagen's software division Cariad, Continental, Red Hat, SUSE, and Toyota's mobility subsidiary Woven Planet, aims to promote cloud-native architectures for high-performance edge computing workloads through open source reference cases, addressing both commercial and non-commercial deployments.
By joining two open standard organizations for software-defined vehicle applications, Qualcomm hopes to accelerate industry partners' introduction of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis digital vehicle platform and promote the software-defined digital vehicle platform experience.
Qualcomm also emphasized that through its digital vehicle platform technology, it will be able to accelerate the automotive industry's introduction of smart cockpits, advanced driver assistance technologies, and a more complete always-connected service application experience. Through software stack connections and open source standard architecture design, it will enable more developers to provide more diverse application experiences for digital vehicle platforms, while also accelerating the digital transformation of vehicles.
