Qualcomm and Chunghwa Telecom jointly announced today (October 29th) that, in response to the Ministry of Education's call to promote innovative applications of AI in education, they are sponsoring 100 AI PC laptops equipped with Snapdragon X processors (using ASUS's...)Zenbook A14The system provides related hardware and software resources to support the Ministry of Education's "Write AI High School Essay Review Assistance System" in developing the first standalone version that can run offline on an AI PC.

This project aims to improve essay grading efficiency and learning outcomes through AI, and accelerate the implementation of on-device AI in the education field. The project's model training and development are handled by Professor Tsai Tsung-Han's team at National Central University, while Professor Tseng Shou-Jen's team at National Chi Nan University is responsible for teacher training.

Core objective: Leverage the advantages of on-device AI to overcome connectivity limitations.

In recent years, the Ministry of Education has developed "Write AI," an educational model based on the development of large-scale language models native to Taiwan. The goal is to shorten essay grading time and provide real-time feedback.

The key to this collaboration lies in deploying Write AI models to run on AI PCs. Qualcomm and Chunghwa Telecom recognize the advantages of Edge AI, including high performance and low latency even offline, as well as enhanced data privacy, security, and cost-effectiveness.

Using a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor-equipped AI PC, the National Central University team will be able to optimize the Write AI model and achieve on-device inference. This means that even in school environments with unstable network connections or limited resources, teachers and students will be able to smoothly use AI to assist in essay grading and learning.

Industry-government-academia-research collaboration: Qualcomm and Chunghwa Telecom provide resources, and university teams execute the project.

This collaboration demonstrates the close integration of industry, government, academia, and research:

• Qualcomm: Providing 100 Snapdragon X AI PCs, edge AI technology, and team support to assist in hardware and software integration. Qualcomm Vice President and President of Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Australia & New Zealand, Liu Sitai, emphasized that running AI on devices enables higher privacy, lower latency, and cost-effectiveness, which aligns with Qualcomm's strategy of promoting the adoption of AI in terminal devices.

Chunghwa Telecom: As a long-term partner of Qualcomm in Taiwan (having previously collaborated on 5G education projects), Chunghwa Telecom is now jointly responding to the Ministry of Education's policy to support the introduction of AI technologies into schools. Executive Vice President Lin Wen-chih stated that they will continue to work with partners to promote the upgrading of the education industry and AI transformation.

• Ministry of Education: Deputy Minister Lau Kok Wai affirmed that this collaboration aligns with the government's policy direction of promoting AI-assisted educational innovation and implementing AI for the sovereignty of Traditional Chinese, and can improve grading efficiency and promote learning equity.

• National Central University (Model Training): Professor Tsai Tsung-han of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering pointed out that the collaboration with Qualcomm enables Write AI to perform efficient inference with NPU, enhance privacy and improve cost-effectiveness, and more accurately evaluate student work.

• National Chi Nan University (Teacher Training): Tseng Shou-jen, Distinguished Professor of the Department of Chinese Literature and Dean of the College of Humanities, said that the standalone AI PC can ensure that students are not limited by online resources. He thanked the donor for helping to shorten the digital gap and achieve digital equality.

Promotion Plan: The initial training will benefit 1,000 teachers, with a target of benefiting 10,000 teachers and students.

The initial goal of this project is to use these 100 AI PCs to train 1000 high school Chinese teachers to use the standalone version of the Write AI application. Once the model is mature, it is expected to be rolled out to benefit more than 10000 teachers and students across Taiwan, concretely implementing AI-assisted teaching and improving students' AI literacy and language skills.
