Qualcomm earlier confirmed that it had filed a lawsuit against Shenzhen Transsion in the Indian High Court.Four non-standard essential patent infringement complaints, emphasizing the need to ensure its patent rights through legal proceedings.
Other companies that have filed lawsuits against Transsion include Philips and Nokia, also alleging patent infringement.
Transsion's current brands include Infinix, itel, and TECNO. It is also known as the "King of African Mobile Phones" in the market. It has captured a lot of market share in developing countries with its mid-range and entry-level models, and is even more likely to break into the top four global mobile phone manufacturers, behind only Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi.
Compared to Qualcomm's past handling of patent infringement cases, it would mostly sign a licensing agreement with the defendant in the form of a product combination and require payment of relevant fees. However, Transsion's current products mainly use MediaTek processors, and some use Unisoc processors. Although products launched in the past used Qualcomm processors, they are no longer on sale. Therefore, in theory, it should not directly affect Qualcomm's holdings of technology patents.
It is currently unclear what impact this lawsuit will have on Transsion, but considering that Transsion's current average mobile phone price is between US$110 and US$120, if it has to pay more patent fees to Qualcomm, the price of Transsion's mobile phones will inevitably increase.
