The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced the launch of the wireless charging technology in early 2023.Qi2 wireless charging technology, and after being adopted by brands such as Apple, it was announced earlier thatUpgraded "Qi2 25W" Technical Specifications, increasing the charging power to 25W, which is 2% more efficient than the original 15W charging specification supported by Qi66.

Qi2 25W wireless charging technology officially debuts, with iPhone first supporting it and more Android phones to follow.

實際上,Qi2 25W其實就是今年4月初以Qi2.2為稱的技術規格,此次更名為Qi2 25W不僅更清楚標示其對應充電功率,更讓消費者容易辨識產品規格差異。

In terms of specifications, in addition to the increased charging power, the Qi2 25W itself remains the same as previously proposed, and can also be used with a magnetic interface to fix the charging position, ensuring that the device can be charged at the highest power. It also prevents improper placement of the sensing position, resulting in improper charging. It can even adapt to more usage scenarios through the magnetic interface.

“Qi2 25W delivers a remarkably fast and efficient wireless charging experience, which will drive wider adoption of wireless charging and accelerate the adoption of the Qi2 technology standard,” said Paul Struhsaker, Executive Director of WPC.

Qi2 25W wireless charging technology officially debuts, with iPhone first supporting it and more Android phones to follow.

Apple already integrates Qi2 technology into existing iPhone models, and the company has confirmed plans to upgrade to the 2W Qi25 specification. This means the new iPhone 17 series, expected to be released this fall, will feature even more efficient wireless charging. Furthermore, since the MagSafe magnetic charging interface already exists in existing iPhone models, upgrading to the 2W Qi25 specification presents minimal technical challenges.

In comparison, the Android camp is slightly behind in progress, although some brands have devicesAlready supports Qi2 technologyHowever, standard certification and magnetic structure design are still not popularized, and some models even require additional design, such as a dedicated protective case, to achieve the Qi2 technology effect.

However, WPC stated that hundreds of products are currently undergoing Qi2 25W certification, including many Android phones and accessories, so we will see more Android devices natively supporting this specification in the future.
