Amazon plans to build a $1.2 million facility at the Kennedy Space Center in FloridaSatellite processing facilities, and plans to launch the first satellite in the coming months, and then plan to conduct the first wave of customer service tests in 2024.
Compared with its competitor SpaceX's Starlink, Amazon also plans to deploy low-orbit satellite communication services through its "Project Kuiper", and obtained approval from the US FCC to build it in 2018. It plans to use 3236 satellites to provide Internet services to remote areas such as rural areas, or areas where it is difficult to build Internet resources.
Amazon has not yet announced the pricing method for its low-orbit satellite communication service, but has revealed that it will be provided at a more friendly price and provide corresponding service options for different needs.
The satellites used for Project Kuiper's low-orbit satellite communications service will be assembled at the plant in Kirkland, Washington, by the end of this year. The satellite processing facility being built will be responsible for the preparations before the satellites are officially launched and deployed. The satellite launch will be handled by Amazon's Blue Origin, Arianespace, and the United Launch Alliance (ULA).
At the same time, Amazon emphasized that it will create more job opportunities through the "Project Kuiper" low-orbit satellite communication service. In addition to the more than 1400 employees currently recruited, Amazon said it will use this service to cooperate with more supply chains and technologies, and expects to increase employment rates in Alabama, Florida and Colorado.
