Apple's Vision ProAlthough Apple's product is considered to usher in the era of spatial computing, its high price, weight, and size have prevented it from gaining widespread adoption as quickly as expected. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has further revealed that Apple plans to launch the lighter, more affordable "Vision Air" in 2027, priced less than half the Vision Pro, and projects annual shipments of over one million units.
Lighter, cheaper spatial computing devices
Currently, the suggested retail price of Vision Pro in Taiwan starts at NT$119900. If the price of "Vision Air" is lowered to less than NT$6, it will significantly lower the entry threshold and have the opportunity to attract more consumers to try it.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the "Vision Air" will be about 40% lighter than the Vision Pro, mainly through the use of plastic and magnesium alloy materials to reduce weight, while simplifying some functions, such as removing the EyeSight display function, lowering the screen resolution, and reducing the number of sensors, in exchange for a better weight ratio and cost structure.
However, Apple will prioritize comfort when it comes to wearing the headset. After all, one of the main reasons why the Vision Pro failed to sell as well as expected was the heavy weight it felt when used for long periods of time.
Chip strategy and product line evolution
The Vision Air will feature the highest-end iPhone processor, targeting a wider range of applications, while the high-end market will remain with the Vision Pro series. Kuo predicts that the second-generation Vision Pro will enter production in the second half of 2028, equipped with a Mac-class processor and featuring further price and weight reductions. This will form a dual-product strategy alongside the Vision Air, catering to both professional and consumer needs.
In addition, Apple seems to be developing more types of wearable devices, including smart glasses with display functions, which will be launched as early as 2027, further expanding the spatial computing ecosystem.
Apple's new phase in spatial computing strategy
From the Vision Pro to the rumored "Vision Air," Apple is gradually adjusting its product positioning, avoiding excessive confinement to the high-priced niche market. If the "Vision Air" can be released as scheduled and introduced to the market at a relatively reasonable price, it may become a key factor in promoting the popularization of spatial computing.
This means that 2027 may be an important turning point in Apple's spatial computing layout. Vision Pro will provide a professional experience, while "Vision Air" will be responsible for expanding the mass market.
The market is starting to have more competition
In addition to existing virtual vision head-mounted device products, Apple may also face more new forms of virtual vision head-mounted device products in the future, such as the recently launchedvivo Vision, and Meta's continuously updated Quest series of virtual vision head-mounted devices, and even began to layout smart glasses products, and Google also began to promoteAndroid XR computing platform devicedevelop.
In addition to Vision Pro, Apple is also reportedly planning to enter the smart glasses market, so it is expected to expand its virtual visual application experience in the future.
