At the Made by Google event, Google officially announced two native Android phones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are expected to go on sale on October 10. In addition to being sold online through the Google Store in Taiwan, they will also be sold exclusively through Taiwan Mobile with data plans.
In terms of specifications, both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro use similar design elements to last year's models. Both use flat-screen designs. The Pixel 8 uses a 6.2-inch Actua display panel and a 60-120Hz screen refresh rate specification design, while the Pixel 8 uses a 6.7-inch Super Actua display panel and supports a 1-120Hz screen refresh rate. The battery capacities are 4485mAh and 4950mAh respectively, and correspond to 24W and 27W charging power. Other differences include 8GB and 12GB of memory, but both phones use Google's self-made Tensor G3 processor.
In terms of appearance, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro still maintain the recent design style, but Pixel 8 uses a glossy glass back cover design, while Pixel 8 Pro uses a matte back cover. Both use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus tempered glass for protection on the front and back.
In terms of camera, both phones are equipped with 1050-megapixel video cameras. The Pixel 8 uses a 5000-megapixel wide-angle lens with 2x lossless zoom in the main camera, paired with a 1200-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, corresponding to up to 8x digital zoom. The Pixel 8 Pro is equipped with a 5000-megapixel wide-angle lens, paired with a 4800-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 5-megapixel telephoto lens with a 4800x optical focal length. The digital zoom can correspond to 30x magnification.
In terms of shooting functions, it has added night vision mode, magic eraser and other shooting technologies that use artificial intelligence. The "Best Take" function allows users to select the best facial makeup for each subject, and even use the new version of the magic eraser to more naturally modify photo images. The newly launched "Video Boost" function can even upload videos to Google cloud servers for post-processing, making the video content brighter.
Google will add a camera feature called Pro Controls to the Pixel 8 Pro, allowing users to adjust settings such as the phone's shutter speed and ISO sensitivity, add a manual focus function, and store shooting effects in JPEG, RAW, or JPEG+RAW format, giving users more camera control functions.
In addition, the Pixel 8 Pro is also equipped with a temperature measurement function, and plans to cooperate with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the future to allow the temperature measurement function to have more possible applications.
The Pixel 8 is available in three colors: Obsidian Black, Mist Gray, and Rose Pink, with a starting suggested retail price of US$699 and a starting price of NT$24900 in Taiwan. The Pixel 8 Pro is available in three colors: Gulf Blue, Ceramic Beige, and Obsidian Black, with a starting suggested retail price of NT$24900.
