Snap AnnounceSnapchat has entered into a major collaboration agreement with AI search engine startup Perplexity. Under this agreement, Perplexity's AI search technology will be directly integrated into the Snapchat platform, providing enhanced question-and-answer capabilities for its built-in "My AI" chatbot.
Under the agreement, Perplexity will pay Snap a total of $4 million in cash and stock. This feature is expected to launch in early 2026.
This move is clearly a step by Snap to upgrade the functionality of its social platform amidst the AI wave. With major social platforms actively integrating AI into personalized experiences, Snap, lacking its own large-scale AI foundational model, obviously needs to seek external assistance to maintain its competitiveness.
After integration, when Snapchat users ask questions to the "My AI" chatbot, they will instantly receive answers compiled from the Perplexity AI search engine and sourced from the internet.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated that bringing Perplexity's AI services to Snapchat aims to make AI "more personalized, social, and fun," thereby positioning Snapchat as a next-generation interactive social platform.
On the other hand, for Perplexity, spending $4 million to access Snapchat's massive young user base is undoubtedly a key step in challenging giants like Google and OpenAI in the field of AI search, enabling it to rapidly expand the reach of its services and brand awareness.
