PayPal announced earlier that it would provide...Venmo, a mobile payment service under its umbrellaVenmo Debit Mastercard has launched a new cash rewards program called "Venmo Stash." This program will increase user engagement with the platform's services through scaled rewards; the more services a user integrates within the Venmo ecosystem (such as setting up a Paycheck account), the higher their reward percentage will be.
Choose from "selected brand bundles" and change them every 30 days.
The way Venmo Stash works is not applicable to all purchases; it can only be triggered by spending on "curated bundles".
In its announcement, PayPal gave examples of "bundles" that might include McDonald's, TikTok Shop, Uber, and Uber Eats. Another bundle might include Amazon, DoorDash, Domino's, and Walgreens, and users will be able to change their bundle every 30 days.
This design means that users must use Venmo debit cards strategically on these specific brands, otherwise the actual net cash back they receive each month may be far less than the advertised figures.
Tiered rewards: Up to 5% discount on transfers made by linking your salary transfer account.
Venmo Stash's feedback system uses a tiered design, directly linking to user activity and feature usage on the platform:
• 1% cashback (basic): Users can earn this cashback simply by using their Venmo debit card to make purchases within their chosen brand bundles.
• 2% Reward (Intermediate): In addition to the 1% reward, users must enable the "auto reloads" function (i.e., keep a certain balance in the Venmo account).
• 5% cashback (maximum): To receive the maximum 5% cashback, in addition to the conditions mentioned above, users must also set up their Venmo account to receive at least $500 in payroll transfers (Direct Deposits) per month.
There is a monthly reward cap, and more reward methods will be introduced next year.
However, this program is not without its limitations. Venmo Stash's terms of service state that there is a "monthly reward cap," but the specific cap amount will only be displayed during the user's registration process. Once the cap is reached, no further rewards will be provided for subsequent purchases in that calendar month.
This move is clearly one of PayPal's recent strategies to attract new customers and increase user engagement. PayPal has also announced that it will launch more ways to earn rewards in 2026.
