In vivoConfirmed to withdraw from the MWC 2020 exhibitionAfterwards, people were still discussing whether more Chinese brand mobile phone manufacturers would follow suit and withdraw, while OPPO issued a statement emphasizing that it would maintain its original plan to participate in the MWC 2020 exhibition activities.
In a related statement, OPPO stated that all employees departing from China to participate in the exhibition had been in closed isolation for 14 days in advance to ensure that they had no symptoms of the new coronavirus before participating in the exhibition. At the same time, their physical conditions were confirmed and reported every day to ensure the health of all employees participating in the exhibition activities.
The press conference venue, conference rooms, exhibition area furnishings and shuttle buses will be disinfected regularly. At the same time, before entering and leaving the OPPO press conference venue or exhibition area, all staff and visitors must have their temperature taken and their hands disinfected. If there is a need to wear a mask, OPPO will also provide it.
Although it emphasized that it would participate in the exhibition under the best epidemic prevention preparations, compared with other companies that chose to withdraw from the exhibition activities due to considerations on the health and safety of employees and exhibitors, OPPO's special statement this time seemed to have caused some "discussion."
Apart from OPPO, mobile phone manufacturers including Xiaomi, Huawei, and Lenovo are still maintaining their original plans to participate in the exhibition. ZTE and TCL have canceled their press conferences during the exhibition, but are still maintaining their original exhibition plans. Only vivo has decided to completely withdraw from participating in MWC 2020.
Other exhibitors, including LG, Ericsson, NVIDIA, Amazon's AWS, Sony Mobile, NTT, and even MediaTek and Intel, have earlier confirmed the cancellation of press conferences and booth activities during MWC 2020. Some, such as Nokia, HMD Global, and Qualcomm, are maintaining their original exhibition plans, but are shifting their staffing to primarily European employees, and are even canceling the participation of employees from China and Asia.
Samsung has not yet revealed whether it will cancel its participation in the exhibition, but there have been previous reports that Samsung has canceled some employees' travel to Europe, and many senior executives are also not expected to participate in MWC 2020. Therefore, it is speculated that Samsung may choose to announce further exhibition decisions after the Unpacked 2020 event.
