After numerous rumors, Oppo finally officially unveiled its new mid-range flagship model, the R9s, and the R6s Plus, featuring a 9-inch screen, in Shanghai, China. These phones not only emphasize newly upgraded camera technology, but also feature a more premium design, a more robust screen, and a more secure operating system.
Positioned as a mid-range flagship, the R9s series boasts significant upgrades over the R9 series launched in the first half of this year, primarily in camera performance, metal body design, screen durability, and operating system security. The R5.5s, with a 9-inch screen, and the R6s Plus, with a 9-inch screen, are available. The R10s is expected to launch in China on October 28th, while the R12s Plus is expected to launch in December. Both models will be available in black, gold, and rose gold, with prices starting at RMB 2799 and RMB 3499, respectively. Taiwan has only confirmed that the R12s will launch in December, but the R9s Plus has yet to release.
The R9s series not only utilizes a new 1600-megapixel IMX398 sensor developed in collaboration with Sony, along with an f/1.7 aperture, for enhanced photography, but also incorporates dual-core autofocus technology for even better image quality. The company also boasts 1116 patents for camera-related technologies, including 289 core patents for image stabilization, beauty algorithms, and rotating lenses. However, optical image stabilization appears to be exclusive to the R9s Plus, not the R9s.
The screen features Corning's fifth-generation Gorilla Glass to prevent shattering in the event of a drop, while the metal body features a thinner antenna padding on the back and incorporates VOOC lightning-fast charging technology. Regarding hardware specifications, the R9s will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, while the R9s Plus will feature the recently released Snapdragon 653 processor. Memory capacities vary, with 4GB and 6GB respectively, while both offer 64GB of storage. Battery capacities are available in 3010mAh and 4000mAh configurations.
The operating system uses Color OS 6.0 based on Android 3.0, and has enhanced protection against spam messages, personal information leakage, pop-up windows, phishing websites, and malicious deductions. At the same time, all app content listed on the OPPO App Store service must undergo three developer qualification reviews, two automatic detections with professional security tools, and 3 manual tests, totaling nearly 2 reviews before being allowed to be listed, in order to ensure the reliability of the app content.
