To support its massive AI computing expenditures and accelerate its path to profitability, OpenAI earlier...AnnounceOpenAI has recruited current Slack CEO Denise Dresser to join the company as its new Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). Dresser will be responsible for overseeing OpenAI's revenue strategy for enterprise and customer success. This signifies that after its recent restructuring into a Public Benefit Corporation, OpenAI is actively recruiting Silicon Valley veterans in an attempt to translate its technological advantages into tangible profitability.

OpenAI poached Slack CEO Denise Dresser to serve as Chief Revenue Officer, aiming to boost monetization and fill the funding gap in computing power.

Silicon Valley All-Star Team Takes Shape, Aiming for Large-Scale Monetization

In a statement, OpenAI Product Chief Executive Officer Fidji Simo said, "We are committed to getting AI tools into the hands of millions of workers across industries. Denise Dresser has led this type of transformation, and her experience will help us make AI more useful, reliable, and accessible to businesses everywhere."

It's worth noting that Fidji Simo herself only joined OpenAI this May. She previously served as CEO of Instacart, and before that, was Facebook's product manager at Meta. With the arrival of two heavyweight executives, Fidji Simo and Denise Dresser, analysts believe OpenAI's next strategy for ChatGPT is quite clear: adopt the standard Silicon Valley model, pursue scale at all costs, and monetize every AI interaction possible.

Given Fidji Simo's past experience in helping to build Meta's advertising business, coupled with recent market speculation about OpenAI...Plans to introduce ads into the chat interfaceDenise Dresser's addition seems to further confirm that OpenAI will adopt a two-pronged business model of "enterprise subscription + advertising".

Finding funding to fill the gaps: Data center and computing power costs are the biggest challenges.

Despite the potential for advertising revenue, Denise Dresser's primary challenge upon taking office remains formidable. OpenAI is currently investing heavily in data center access and server component procurement and construction to maintain its competitiveness. Add to that the high computational costs of processing each ChatGPT query, and ensuring that the company's revenue growth keeps pace with the rate of cash burn will be a "super task" that the new CRO will have to face.
