OpenAI announces the launch of an AI model service designed specifically for educators."ChatGPT for Teachers"The initial wave will target the US market, offering free access until June 2027 to proven K-12 (kindergarten to high school) teachers, school staff, and administrators. This will help teachers use their preparation time more efficiently and collaborate in a safe environment.
Enterprise-grade cybersecurity specifications: Data is not used to train models; compliance with FERPA privacy standards.
The biggest difference between "ChatGPT" and the general public version is that "ChatGPT for Teachers" has particularly enhanced security, compliance and management functions required in the educational setting.
OpenAI promises that course materials or information shared in this release will never be used to train AI models. Data is encrypted during storage and transmission and supports multi-factor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on (SSO) to ensure account security. Furthermore, the system is designed to protect student data and help schools comply with the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
For school or school district administrators, OpenAI also provides a domain application and management console, which can centralize educators in a single workspace with access control.
Integrates Canva, Google, and Microsoft, and supports "Deep Research" and custom GPT.
In terms of functionality, teachers will have unlimited access to ChatGPT's flagship model and a full suite of tools, including file uploading, image generation, data analysis, web searching, and deep research. This allows teachers to create personalized teaching materials or responses based on students' levels and learning styles.
To expedite workflows, ChatGPT for Teachers also integrates third-party services:
• Canva: We can directly assist in the preparation of presentation materials.
• Google Drive/Microsoft 365: Course plans or files can be directly imported.
In addition, the platform also supports collaboration among teachers, who can jointly edit teaching materials or use "Custom GPTs" to standardize templates and resources within the school.
A study conducted in collaboration with 15 educators indicates that future pricing will remain "affordable."
OpenAI is currently collaborating with major school districts representing approximately 15 teachers and staff to research how AI can best support large-scale educational settings. Regarding pricing strategies after the free period ends, OpenAI only states that the goal is to allow educators to continue using the service at an "affordable price."
