OpenAI has announced a livestream event scheduled for 8:8 AM Taiwan time on August 1th, likely to officially unveil its previously rumored new large-scale language model, GPT-5. While the official theme of the livestream has yet to be revealed, a preview posted on social media platform "X" suggests that the "S" in "LIVESTREAM" has been deliberately replaced with the number "5," hinting that the upcoming announcement will be related to GPT-5.
Published since March 2023GPT-4GPT-5 will become OpenAI's next-generation, flagship large-scale language model. Over the past year or so, OpenAI has released GPT-4.5, GPT-4-turbo, and the multimodal GPT-4o, even hinting at the existence of GPT-2025 in early 4.1. However, these models are primarily extensions of the GPT-4 family. The upcoming GPT-5 is expected to offer significant "next-generation" upgrades.

OpenAI CEO Sam AltmanPreviously revealedGPT-5 will make a significant leap in reasoning and logical ability, possessing the so-called "chain-of-thought reasoning" feature, which can break down complex problems into a series of logical steps and gradually infer the answer, demonstrating an operating method that is closer to the logic of human thinking.
In addition, GPT-5 will also have a built-in more powerful reasoning module and support extended functions such as Deep Research to further enhance response accuracy and processing efficiency of multi-step tasks.
In addition to releasing the main GPT-5 model, OpenAI may also release lightweight GPT-5 mini and GPT-5 nano versions simultaneously, allowing developers and users to choose the most appropriate model version based on their needs and computing resources, and deploy applications on devices such as laptops and mobile phones. This deployment strategy actually echoes the multi-model hierarchy introduced in the GPT-4.1 series.
It's unclear whether GPT-5 will replace GPT-4o and become the default model for ChatGPT, or whether it will be available only to advanced users or via an API. However, based on OpenAI's past strategy for both free and paid users, it's possible that users will still be able to experience GPT-5 to some extent within the free tier.
What is known is that OpenAI has significantly expanded its data center and fine-tuned its model training architecture, paving the way for the future operation of GPT-5. If this livestream indeed delivers the anticipated release of the new GPT-5 model series, it will undoubtedly mark a significant milestone in the development of AI.
