The new flagship model was announced early last yearOM-1 Mark IILater, OM System announced the launch of the OM-43, a high-end M3 format camera with a retro body appearance. It has a classic film camera appearance and an electronic system equivalent to the OM-1 II. It also has the creative dial design of the Pen-F series models, and adds an IP53-level dust and water resistance design to the small-sized magnesium alloy body.

The back of the body is equipped with a 3-inch, 162 million pixel flip-up LCD screen, and the electronic viewfinder has a resolution of 236 million pixels.
The body weight including the battery is 496 grams, which is slightly heavier than the OM-1 which weighs 594 grams including the battery. The OM-5 still maintains the lightest design including the battery, but the three cameras still have different usage positioning.
In addition to adopting a retro camera appearance and incorporating a newer electronic system, the OM-3 also incorporates the Pen-F series' creative dial design in its shooting function, allowing users to quickly switch between color or monochrome shooting styles. It also allows users to manually adjust color saturation, highlights, and shadow levels, allowing users to unleash their shooting creativity in 11 levels, 12 levels of color saturation, different film effects, and monochrome modes.
The video recording system offers high-resolution shooting for tripod use, handheld high-resolution shooting, Live ND, Live GND, Deep Composite, HDR, and multiple exposure shooting modes. For video recording, the camera's thermal management design allows it to shoot up to 40 minutes of 30K 4p 30-bit video in environments as hot as 10°C, and unlimited time at 25°C. OM-Cinema1 and OM-Cinema2 video profiles are also available, and the Creative Dial offers quick still, movie, and S&Q (slow motion/quick motion) shooting modes.
In addition to launching the OM-3, OM System also simultaneously launched two fixed-focus lenses, namely M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F1.8 II and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 25mm F1.8 II.
建議售價方面，OM-3單機身將在日本市場以26.4萬日圓價格銷售，包含12-45mm F4 PRO變焦鏡的組合售價則是29.7萬日圓，但台灣市場售價則尚未公布。
