OM System unveiled its flagshipOM-3After that, the mid-range updated model OM-5 II was launched in the second half of the year, which maintainedOM-5The model is compact and portable, and has been adjusted in appearance and user experience. It also introduces an interface and connection specifications that are more suitable for modern usage scenarios, becoming a new option for M43 models in lightweight shooting. The body is also available in black, silver and desert colors.
More rounded design and larger handle for better grip
The OM-5 II retains the lightweight structure of the OM-5, but features simplified lines on the upper portion for a more rounded and streamlined look. A newly enlarged grip with anti-slip strips ensures a comfortable grip even without a separate handgrip. Notably, the rear button layout has also undergone a minor change, with the exposure lock button replaced by a focus drive button.
In line with modern specifications: USB Type-C support, support USB power delivery
The OM-5 was previously criticized for retaining a micro USB interface, but the OM-5 II has been upgraded to USB-C, supporting both charging and direct USB power delivery, allowing users to continue shooting via a power bank. However, the battery remains small, so charging speed and battery life may require further observation.
The sensor remains unchanged, but it's replaced with a Tru-Pic X processor and new control logic.
The sensor maintains the same specifications as the OM-5, but it has been replaced with the Tru-Pic X processor, the same level as the OM-1 and OM-3. In addition to helping improve overall image quality, it also brings a more intuitive new control interface, Live ND (supports up to ND16), CP mode shortcut keys and more detailed situational shooting assistance. For video recording, it supports vertical recording and two OM-Cinema color styles.
AI focus is still absent, and the focus is on outdoor reliability and mobility.
While many cameras are adopting AI focus, the OM-5 II still lacks similar features. Instead, it emphasizes stable and reliable focusing in outdoor scenes, boasting IP53 dust and weather resistance, a -10°C to 40°C rating, and built-in shooting functions such as handheld star focus, star trail synthesis, and depth of field synthesis. Combined with the features of the Micro Four Thirds, it maintains advantages in telephoto magnification and portability.
The Japanese version only provides a Japanese interface, and the paid installation of multilingual service is cancelled.
It is worth noting that OM System announced that the Japanese version will only provide a Japanese interface and will cancel the original paid installation of multi-language service options. This is to reduce the situation where overseas consumers choose to purchase Japanese models due to price or exchange rate factors, avoid affecting the global market pricing strategy and the purchasing rights of consumers in the Japanese market.
The price of the version sold in the Taiwan market will be announced by Taiwan's general agent Yuanyou, and it is expected to become the focus of entry-level and advanced users around the summer vacation.
