Currently, the Ohio Transportation Security Administration has allowed airports to use digital IDs stored on mobile phones for identity recognition, and some companies and applications can also use digital IDs as personal identification. Even some age verification processes can use digital IDs to verify whether an individual's age meets the adult requirement. The Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles has even produced an instructional video to let residents in the state know how to add their personal driver's licenses and ID cards digitally to the Apple Wallet service.
In addition to accepting digital IDs stored in Apple Wallet, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, and Maryland currently also accept digital IDs stored in Google Wallet on mobile phones.
Apple is not only promoting digital ID applications in the United States, but is also working with the Japanese government to allow Japanese citizens to use digital IDs in the spring of 2025.Individual Number Card Residents who have a My Number Card can add the relevant information to Apple Wallet and use it as personal identification in digital form.
