Currently, both HTC VIVE and Oculus Rift are compatible with Valve's Steam VR platform services, but Oculus Rift has additionally partnered with Microsoft for bundled sales, and is expected to have deeper application performance in gaming applications.
HTC VIVE will be open for pre-order in February this year, and is expected to be officially launched around April this year at the earliest. As for Oculus Rift, it is still expected to be launched around the first quarter of this year.
