With the new generationNothingPhone (3)After the launch of the Nothing Ear (3), Nothing launched its new flagship headset, and for the first time used metal materials and a more futuristic "Super Mic" function, attempting to rewrite the voice call experience of true wireless headsets.
The Nothing Ear (3) is noticeably more refined in design, with its housing and charging case featuring a combination of aluminum and plastic. The new nano-injection process allows the metal and plastic to fuse, eliminating the need for traditional adhesive bonding, resulting in a more consistent appearance and texture. However, this process isn't necessarily easier to repair than traditional structures, which can be a bit of a dilemma for users who prioritize recyclability.
The biggest highlight this time is the "Super Mic" design that has been added for the first time. This is a set of additional microphones built into the charging box. Through beamforming technology and a handheld microphone-like position design, it can pick up sounds more accurately and reduce background noise.
Nothing said that this allows users to clearly capture their voices even when speaking in a low voice. Currently, it supports call applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and WeChat, and can directly record voice memos and transcribe them simultaneously.
However, this design cannot replace the phone's preset microphone input, so you still need to use the headset microphone when sending voice messages in iMessage or other chat tools.
The earphones themselves have also been fully upgraded, featuring three directional microphones and a bone conduction voice pickup unit (VPU), along with ANC active noise cancellation, which the official claims can reduce external noise by over 25dB. Furthermore, they are equipped with a 12mm dynamic driver, allowing the redesigned sound output to have fuller low frequencies and more detailed high frequencies, and the EQ sound field can be fine-tuned via the Nothing X app.
The battery life is also longer than the previous generation. The listening time with ANC turned on can reach 5.5 hours. With the charging box, the total battery life can reach about 27.5 hours. In addition, 5 hour of music can be played after 1 minutes of fast charging.
Nothing Ear (3) will be officially launched on September 9th, available in black and white. Pre-orders are now open, with a suggested retail price of US$25.
