SpotifyAnnounceSpotify has partnered with Bookshop.org, an independent bookstore digital platform, to launch physical book purchases within the Spotify app, initially in the US and UK markets. This move demonstrates that Spotify does not view audiobooks as a "killer" of physical books, but rather aims to establish a complementary relationship between the two.
In addition, Spotify also announced the expansion of its highly acclaimed "Page Match" virtual-to-real progress synchronization feature and officially rolled out the AI audiobook summarization feature to the Android platform.
Embrace the warmth of print: Support independent bookstores by ordering physical books directly within the app.
This collaboration with Bookshop.org, an e-commerce platform that specializes in helping independent physical bookstores digitize and expand their businesses online, was first announced in early February this year and is now officially launched.
From now on, when users in the US and UK browse audiobooks on Spotify, if a physical copy is also available, a "Get a copy for your bookshelf" link will appear on the interface. Clicking this will redirect users to Bookshop.org, allowing them to complete the checkout and shipping process.
Spotify emphasizes that all purchases made through this channel will directly support independent bookstores and the authors who bring their stories to the world. The shopping guide feature is currently available on Android, and the iOS version is expected to launch next week.
Seamless integration of virtual and real worlds: "Page Match" supports over 30 languages, and AI summarization is now available on Android.
Another key aspect of this collaboration is Spotify's killer feature, "Page Match," which was launched in February of this year.
This feature completely breaks down the barriers between physical books, e-books, and audiobooks. When a user is reading a physical paper book or using an e-reader, they can simply "scan" the page they are currently reading with their phone's camera, and Spotify can accurately identify the progress, allowing users to seamlessly continue "listening" to the audiobook from that section while commuting or driving, or indicating which page of the book they are currently reading.
Spotify announced that the "Page Match" feature has been expanded to support more than 30 new languages, including French, German, and Swedish.
Meanwhile, the "Audiobook Recaps" feature, previously only available on iOS, is now officially open to Android users. This AI-powered audio summarization feature activates after listeners have played an audiobook for more than 10 minutes. Whenever a user pauses for a period of time and resumes playback, the AI will automatically provide a summary of what has been read, reminding the user of previously read content.
Since officially entering the audiobook market in 2022, Spotify has been making frequent moves, currently offering 15 hours of free audiobook listening time per month to Premium subscribers.
