In the 4 firmware update released earlier for PlayStation 7.0, Sony not only expanded the maximum number of party connections from 8 to 16, and improved connection stability and sound quality during online chats, but also announced that more mobile devices can also use Remote Play, allowing Android 5.0 and above devices, or devices installed with iOS 12.1 or later to support the use of this remote remote play function.
According to Sony, any device running Android 5.0 or higher, or running iOS 12.1 or later, can support Remote Play. For Apple products, the recommended models are iPhone 7, sixth-generation iPad, or second-generation iPad Pro. However, no specific Android device models are recommended.
If users want to play with a controller, they must use an Android 10 or later device to connect the DualShock 4 controller, while iOS devices must install iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 or later. As for Mac devices, if you want to use Remote Play with a connected controller, you must upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina.
However, even if Sony opens up the Remote Play feature to more devices, there will still be some support limitations such as vibration functions. For example, iPhones or iPads may not support the vibration experience during gameplay, and some Android phones may not be compatible.
The new PlayStation 7.0 system update is expected to be released in Japan at 10:8 PM on October 6th.
