While Bixby isn't often the first name that comes to mind in discussions about voice assistants, Samsung clearly hasn't given up on it. With the increasing prevalence of AI chatbots, Bixby has received an epic update, attempting to win back users' hearts with a more natural conversational experience.
三星在The latest beta version of One UI 8.5 has been released. In the meantime, Bixby has been officially upgraded to a "conversational agent".
In the past, when using Bixby or traditional voice assistants, users often needed to memorize specific commands or set names. Now, Samsung says you can simply describe your needs in natural language, just like chatting with a real person or a chatbot.
Say goodbye to rigid commands and treat Bixby like a real customer service representative.
The biggest highlight of this update is Bixby's significant leap in semantic understanding, so users no longer need to accurately pronounce the proper nouns in the system menu.
For example, you can simply say, "I don't want the screen to automatically go to sleep while I'm watching it." Once Bixby understands, it will automatically enable the "Keep screen on while watching" setting deep within the system.
If you encounter any problems with your phone, Bixby can also be a helpful troubleshooter. For example, if you ask, "Why is my phone screen still lit up even when it's in my pocket?", Bixby won't just give you a Google search result link. Instead, it will act like a customer service representative, listing several possible causes and solutions for you to choose from within the interface.
Built-in web search reduces app redirection interference.
In addition to controlling the phone's underlying settings, the new version of Bixby also enhances its ability to obtain new external information. Now it can directly connect to the internet to search for the latest information and display the webpage results directly in the Bixby interface, eliminating the hassle of having to force a jump and open a browser app like in the past, making the user experience more seamless.
Currently, Bixby, with its new AI conversational capabilities, is only available in select markets with the One UI 8.5 beta version. The initial list includes Samsung's home country, South Korea, as well as Germany, India, Poland, the UK, and the US. It is expected to be rolled out to more users worldwide with future official updates.
