Masafumi Matsuyama, Vice President and President of Nissan ChinadisplayThe company is currently considering exporting fuel vehicles, pure electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles developed and produced in China to overseas markets, and has established a cooperative relationship with Tsinghua University in China to accelerate the development of electric vehicle products through resources in China.
At the same time, Masafumi Matsuyama also stated that Nissan will compete with Chinese vehicle brands including BYD in the electric vehicle market.
Currently, overseas vehicle brands including Tesla, BMW, and Ford are continuously expanding their manufacturing operations in China and entering the local electric vehicle market. Nissan currently sells approximately 280 million vehicles globally, but its share of the Chinese market has dropped from one-third last year to approximately one-fifth this year. This is primarily due to the rapid rise of domestic electric vehicle brands, which are competing in the market with relatively low prices.
Nissan has previously collaborated with Tsinghua University in China on smart mobility and autonomous driving technologies. This renewed partnership will see the two sides establish a joint research center, which will focus on developing charging infrastructure and battery recycling technologies. This collaboration will also deepen Nissan's presence in the Chinese market and develop market strategies tailored to local developments.
