The Verge website reportsAllegedly, Nintendo launchedNintendo Switch 2The USB-C port uses an encryption mechanism and a special chip design to limit the compatibility of third-party accessories, which means that players cannot directly use docks, expansion docks, or adapter accessories released by third-party brands.
The report pointed out that Nintendo has designed a unique verification process for the USB-C port of Nintendo Switch 2, which includes additional encryption processing, rather than being designed entirely in accordance with the standard USB-C specification. This makes general USB-C to HDMI adapters unusable, and even makes third-party docks that could originally be used on Nintendo Switch unable to work. This means that Nintendo will use this to consolidate its own peripheral ecosystem and ensure that Nintendo Switch 2 expansion accessories produced by third-party brands must comply with Nintendo certification.
Under this adjustment, the Nintendo Switch 2 expansion accessories originally planned to be launched by third-party brands including Jsaux are completely unusable with the Nintendo Switch 2, so the launch of the relevant products will ultimately be postponed.
If the USB-IF's design specifications are followed, as long as they comply with the USB-C open standard, they can support USB-C video output (DisplayPort Alternate Mode) and USB-C PD (Power Delivery). However, Nintendo has clearly limited the USB-C functionality of the Nintendo Switch 2 with its design, requiring official or authorized accessories to work with the Nintendo Switch 2.
This means that if current users want to use a dock, expansion unit, or adapter accessories with the Nintendo Switch 2, they must purchase genuine Nintendo products or accessories authorized by Nintendo. Third-party brand docks, expansion units, or adapter accessories originally used for the Nintendo Switch may not be directly usable.
