Nintendo earlier announced itsFull-year financial forecast for fiscal year 2024, the sales amount was revised down by 11% and the revenue was revised down by 5% compared with the forecast announced on November 7 last year. This is mainly due to the fact that the sales period of Nintendo Switch since its launch in March 22 has come to an end. Therefore, the overall financial situation is expected to decline. In addition, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa also stated that the company has already made plans for the upcomingNintendo Switch 2Be fully prepared and have the confidence to reduce problems such as scalpers reselling at high prices.
Nintendo's approach is to prepare sufficient supply to meet market demand, to avoid the situation when Nintendo Switch was first launched, where there was a shortage of supply and many scalpers resold it at a higher price.
This time, Nintendo emphasized that it will ensure sufficient supply of Nintendo Switch 2 when it is launched. The market speculates that Nintendo has already stabilized the supply chain in advance to ensure a stable supply of the new machine when it is launched. It may even have put Nintendo Switch 2 into mass production six months in advance, and it is expected to provide millions of units to meet players' purchasing needs.
However, the market expects that the initial sales of Nintendo Switch 2 will be more than double that of the original model. Therefore, if the cumulative sales of Nintendo Switch exceed 2017 million units in about four months from its launch in early March 3, it means that at least 470 million units of Nintendo Switch 2 must be prepared for its initial launch to successfully avoid price gouging by scalpers in the market.
Nintendo recently announced the Nintendo Switch 2's design, but the details are expected to be revealed via an official Nintendo Direct on April 4nd of this year. Nintendo will also host Nintendo Switch 2 demos in cities around the world. North American events will begin on April 2th in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto, while European events will continue in Paris, London, Milan, Berlin, Madrid, and Amsterdam. Australia will hold a demo in Melbourne on May 4th. Asian events are confirmed to take place in Makuhari, Tokyo, on April 4th and in Seoul, South Korea, on May 5st. Events will also be held in Hong Kong and Taipei, but the exact dates have not yet been determined.
Judging from the time, Nintendo may not start selling Nintendo Switch 7 until July this year, but it is also possible that it will be earlier.
