In the earlier83rd Investor MeetingIn the report, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa did not elaborate on the details of the future development of the game console, but emphasized that subsequent models of Nintendo Switch will still maintain the design of using physical game cartridges and digitally downloaded games.
Compared to Sony and Microsoft, which have subsequently launched game consoles designed only for digitally downloaded games, Shuntaro Furukawa emphasized that although the proportion of digitally downloaded game content on Nintendo Switch is currently increasing, they will continue to launch game consoles that can use both physical game cartridges and digitally downloaded game content in the future.
From Nintendo's perspective, the company primarily hopes to allow users to access a wide variety of gaming content through diverse means. Therefore, it will not limit itself to providing consoles that can only be used to download digitally downloaded game content. Nintendo also hopes to enhance the gaming experience through digitally downloaded game content combined with subscription services.
Shuntaro Furukawa said that in the past, Nintendo mainly attracted the player market through the sales of hardware such as game consoles, but in the future it will be more inclined to attract players through software and service content, and allow players to seamlessly transfer from existing game consoles to subsequently launched game consoles. For example, in the past, players could only establish interactive relationships through game consoles, but now they can further interact with players through Nintendo accounts on game consoles and mobile devices.
Regarding the Nintendo Switch, now in its seventh year, and whether game developers are experiencing performance shortfalls, Nintendo Executive Director and Head of Planning and Production Shinya Takahashi stated that since the days of the Famicom, Nintendo has been experimenting with ways to create greater gaming fun within limited hardware capabilities. He also emphasized that Nintendo's focus is on creating engaging content, and therefore it won't blindly pursue performance in hardware specifications.
However, Nintendo's general manager of technology development, Osamu Shioda, said that they will continue to listen to the needs of developers and continue to try to ensure that Nintendo Switch development tool resources can smoothly assist in creating more interesting games.
