In response to the current situation of pirated games, Nintendo hopes toDenuvo, an anti-tampering software suite from cybersecurity company IrdetoSolve such problems.
Although Nintendo is actively combating piracy, many Nintendo Switch game cards released by developers and publishers are still being pirated and illegally sold as genuine cards, or through software simulation so that people can play them through PCs, Steam Deck, and Android phones.
Therefore, Nintendo chose to cooperate with Irdeto, hoping to use the related technologies of its anti-tampering software suite Denuvo to allow game developers to use this technology in the form of intermediary software during the production process to prevent game content from being copied or illegally used.
However, previous criticisms have indicated that Denuvo-protected game content can cause performance degradation, leading many developers to ultimately remove Denuvo content to ensure normal game performance. Furthermore, despite Denuvo claiming to have protected over 1000 games from piracy, many games, such as Middle-earth: Shadow of War, were still successfully cracked within a short period of time despite Denuvo protection.
However, Nintendo's collaboration with Irdeto to improve the Nintendo Switch game piracy problem through Denuvo software is still beneficial to developers overall. However, it is uncertain whether the Denuvo software usage fee will be absorbed by Nintendo or indirectly passed on to developers, which may increase the final price of the game?
