Nintendo officially unveiled the gameplay details of Donki Gang Banana (ドンキーコングバナンザ) during its earlier Nintendo Direct conference, and confirmed that Pauline, a popular character from Super Mario Odyssey, will be a key partner in this game, embarking on a new 3D platform adventure where destruction and creation intertwine.
Pauline's partner setting is eye-catching, and the two-player cooperation enhances the interactive experience
In "Dunkyon: Banana Power Up," Pauline is no longer just a background character but a fully functional main character. According to the official description, she possesses a special ability powered by her song, allowing Dunkyon to temporarily transform into various animal forms, such as a high-speed zebra or a flying ostrich that can launch explosive eggs, further enhancing the variety of exploration and combat.
Even more unique, Pauline can be controlled as a second character using Joy-Con motion control. Using her singing voice, players can direct targeted sonic attacks to help Donki-Gon overcome obstacles. Nintendo has also introduced GameShare, allowing players to play together locally even if the other Switch hasn't purchased the game, significantly enhancing the accessibility and interactivity of two-player gaming.
Multiple new systems added, destruction and creativity go hand in hand
In addition to classic action-adventure elements, "Dunky Gang: Banana Power" also introduces a host of new gameplay features. For example, players can control the Dunky Gang to pull up environmental debris and glide across it, even piecing the fragments together to form interactive structures like bridges. Another new mode, "DK Artist," allows players to create their own sculptures from broken stone blocks, achieving a clever balance between level progression and creative expression.
Familiar faces reappear, full of nostalgic elements
The character lineup features the classic Cranky Kong and his mount, Rambi, as well as surprise appearances from Diddy Kong and Dicey Kong. They will serve as opponents in the racing mini-game, but whether they will become part of the main storyline remains to be announced.
Nintendo also announced that the game will include the classic soundtrack "DK Rap" from Donkey Kong 64, a song that holds a special place in the hearts of veteran gamers. Fans are also eagerly anticipating that the original game's composer, Grant Kirkhope, will be credited on the production team, making up for his uncredited role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Donkey Kong: Banana Power is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2025 on July 7, 17. While continuing the classic Donkey Kong style, it also introduces a host of innovative systems and character interactions. Whether you're a new player or a seasoned fan, this fast-paced and creative adventure is worth the wait.
