NintendoAnnounceA live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda will be developed, and the film will be produced in collaboration with Arad Productions. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for global distribution and will also become a co-investor.
Having previously adapted games such as "Super Mario" into movies and attracted more audiences through channels other than game consoles, Nintendo expects to continue producing more movies based on game content, which will enable Nintendo's unique entertainment content to be conveyed to more people.
However, Nintendo did not disclose which game the live-action adaptation of "The Legend of Zelda" will be based on.
The film's content will be produced jointly by Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions representative Avi Arad, and will be directed by Wes Ball, the director of "Maze Runner". Nintendo will bear more than half of the film's production costs, and Sony Pictures Entertainment is expected to be responsible for the film's distribution, and will also become a co-investor.
Arad Productions has previously been responsible for producing film content such as "Uncharted," which is also a live-action adaptation, and its representative, Avi Arad, is the founder and CEO of Marvel Studios.
