Nintendo earlier announced a series of new products and game information related to the 35th anniversary of "Super Mario" through the "Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct" live broadcast, including the launch of a new GAME&WATCH handheld, as well as games including the port of "Super Mario 3D World + Raging World", "Mario Kart LIVE Home Racing" which combines physical remote control cars, "Super Mario 3D Collection" and "Super Mario 35".
The new GAME&WATCH handheld console is equipped with a cross key and A and B buttons that recreate the feel of the original Famicom controller, a 2.36-inch full-color LCD screen and a built-in lithium battery. It is charged via USB-C and a single charge provides approximately 8 hours of play time. The suggested retail price is US$50 or 4980 yen.
"Super Mario 3D World", which was originally released on the Nintendo Wii U platform, will be ported to the Nintendo Switch platform in the form of "Super Mario 3D World + Rage World" with enhanced content, and the operation interface will be improved, and multi-player online play function will be added.
As for "Super Mario 64", "Mario Sunshine" and "Super Mario Galaxy" previously released on the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube platforms, they will be ported to Nintendo Switch in the form of "Super Mario 3D Collection" with upgraded resolution and improved operation interface, and 175 original soundtracks will be included for players to freely play and listen to.
"Mario Kart LIVE Home Circuit", launched simultaneously this time, is based on the equally popular "Mario Kart" series. It integrates with a physical remote control car and is connected to the Nintendo Switch. In addition to allowing players to actually control the remote control car to compete, they can also transmit the captured images through the remote control car's camera, allowing players to view the real-time images on the Nintendo Switch screen, and also overlay the game characters, scene images and props.
Players can also decide the tracks in the game by themselves. They can plan the tracks through the included arch accessories, and the game will record the track route by actually driving the remote control car around it.
"Mario Kart LIVE Home Circuit" is expected to go on sale on October 10th, with a suggested retail price of 16 yen.
In addition, "Super Mario Bros. 10", which is expected to be provided free of charge to all Nintendo Switch Online service subscribers between October 1 and March 3 next year, incorporates battle royale gameplay elements, allowing up to 31 players to join the online competition at the same time. Players try to escape through various classic "Super Mario Bros." levels. Players who knock down enemies in the level will be sent to the level of other players. At the same time, players will be forced to exit the competition if they make operational errors or run out of time. However, knocking down enemies can increase time, or spend gold coins to randomly draw power-up props.
In addition to the content announced this time, Nintendo also confirmed that it will be adding Super Mario’s 2th anniversary celebrations to titles like Splatoon 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
