Elon Musk recently revealed that Neuralink will be launched within this yearFirst human experimentAfter that, we finally started to open up to the outside world.Recruiting volunteers for human trials of brain-computer interfacesThis experimental project will be named "PRIME", which is the abbreviation of "Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface".
According to the description, this experimental project will primarily evaluate the effects of placing an implant called N1 in the human brain using the surgical robot R1. If successful, it will enable paralyzed individuals to control external devices through their brains, such as communicating with others via digital computer input. It will also help patients with spinal cord injuries or ALS to operate related devices through their brains, providing mobility assistance.
Neuralink has recently received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its trial application for chip implants in the human brain, and emphasized that this is an important development in brain-computer connection technology.
However, the market believes that even if Neuralink can prove that the device is quite safe to be implanted in the human body, it will still take several years, or even more than 10 years, to obtain commercial approval. This is because Neuralink has previously been controversial due to failed animal trials, and there are concerns that the device used to connect to the brain may still have adverse effects on the human body.
On the other hand, Neuralink's direct competitor Synchron has already taken the lead in related fields, so it is not yet possible to confirm whether Neuralink can catch up successfully.
