Netflix announced that its Creative Equity Fund will be launched in Taiwan for the first time. The fund is expected to support equality in the local film and television industry, and through its projects, it will help discover and train new talents from around the world and provide potential job opportunities.
Maya Huang, Director of Chinese Content at Netflix, said, "Chinese-language film and television content has flourished in recent years, and Netflix has actively invested in and expanded the Chinese-language content industry. This collaboration with the Taiwan Cultural and Creative Industry Development Agency has reached a new level. Since signing a memorandum of understanding in 2022, and hosting the 'NETFLIX x TAICCA Collaboration Workshop' last year, this year's workshop, based on the Creative Industries Equality Fund, aims to foster healthy and positive interaction and exchange with emerging Taiwanese creators, helping more Taiwanese creators produce high-quality works and continuously developing diverse local original content."
Tsai Chia-chun, Chairman of the Taiwan Cultural and Creative Industry Development Agency (TCA), stated that through this practical workshop collaboration, the agency and Netflix hope to strengthen their understanding of the international market and thereby enhance the global commercial appeal of Taiwanese productions. The agency will also continue to foster professional talent in Taiwan's film and television industry, assisting Taiwanese businesses in expanding internationally, creating more diverse business opportunities, and promoting high-quality Taiwanese original content globally.
The six-week "NETFLIX x TAICCA Screenwriting: Writers' Room Experiment Workshop," co-hosted by Netflix and the Taiwan Culture Content Initiative, will run from September 21st to October 26th. The workshop speakers include renowned screenwriter Xu Ruiliang ("The Victim," "Taiwan Crime Stories: Under the Tide"), Netflix's Director of Chinese Content Huang Yimei ("Little Big Women," "Summer in West Little River"), and Chris Mack ("The Fate Writer," "Brooklyn Rush"), who previously led Warner Bros. Workshop and is currently Netflix's Director of Creative Talent Investment for International Originals.
The "NETFLIX x TAICCA Series Screenwriter: Writers' Room Lab Workshop" utilizes a "writers' room" system to hone screenwriting skills and creative abilities through hands-on exercises. Content covers series concept structure, pilot writing, character development, writers' room experience, and pitch development. This workshop is expected to bring together approximately 40 experienced screenwriters and producers, as well as emerging film and television creators.
The Netflix Creative Equality Fund has officially launched in Taiwan, demonstrating Netflix's commitment to supporting and nurturing creative talent. This fund is more than just a training program; it provides a platform for creators to showcase their creative abilities to a global audience. We hope these initiatives will bring new vitality and opportunities to the film and television creative industry, and deliver more exciting content to audiences around the world.
