Last year, nearly 900 million consumers accused Sony's PlayStation of using its market competitive advantage to raise game prices, therebyForming "extortion" behavior, and launched a class action lawsuit in the UK, seeking £50 billion in compensation, which was announced earlier by the UK Specialist Competition Court.Approval for review, but there is no specific ruling yet.
This class action lawsuit was filed by Alex Neill and others, who claim that Sony, in order to gain a competitive advantage in the gaming market, requires game developers and publishers to pay an additional 30% profit share, causing consumers to have to pay higher game purchase costs and damaging their rights.
The lawsuit also mentioned that consumers have spent up to 6 billion pounds on game purchases over the past six years, which means that each consumer has incurred additional expenses ranging from 50 to 67 pounds. Sony has influenced game sales pricing through its dominant market position in the PlayStation game console, causing consumers to spend more to purchase game content as the cost of living gradually increases.
The lawsuit requires Sony to provide compensation to consumers in the UK who purchased games or paid downloads through PlayStation consoles or the PlayStation Store online service after August 2016, 8.
Although Sony had previously attempted to have the court dismiss the lawsuit, the court ultimately favored the plaintiff's claims and will formally hear the case.
