In addition to the initial five Moto Mods, Motorola has already provided development kits to developers worldwide, hoping to encourage more people to design Moto Mod accessories and expand the possibilities of the Moto Z series. Earlier, Motorola announced a collaboration with accessory manufacturer Mophie to create a new 3000mAh battery back cover and a partnership with Incipio to create car chargers. The company also stated that future modular accessory designs will enable the Moto Z series to more quickly adapt to 5G connectivity.

Due to the modular design of Moto Mods, the Moto Z can quickly swap back cover accessories through magnetic attraction, expanding the phone's application functions through different accessories. Therefore, Motorola believes that such a design will bring greater competitiveness and allow a phone to continue to extend its service life through accessories.
In addition to the five Moto Mods announced recently, Motorola has partnered with Mophie and Incipio to release two new Moto Mods. Furthermore, to encourage more developers to design, Motorola plans to release four new Moto Mods each quarter starting in mid-2017, in addition to the Moto Mod development kit, which has already been made available to the public. This will allow new Motorola devices to be compatible with Moto Mods.
According to Motorola's survey data, more than half of Moto Z series users currently use Moto Mods accessories, of which about 20% use projector and camera module functions. At the same time, battery modules also attract many users to use them for a long time, with an average weekly usage time of more than 37 hours.
Regarding the upcoming 5G era, Motorola has revealed that it will make its mobile phone products support 5G networking functions in a modular form in the future.Qualcomm's first 5G network data chip X50After entering testing in the second half of 2017, Motorola will be able to launch Moto Mods accessories using this data chip in 2018.
However, since the data chip still needs to undergo a lot of system compatibility testing, it is still difficult to say whether Motorola can be the first to enable 5G connectivity capabilities for Moto Z series phones through Moto Mods.
